The Story Odysseus is discuised as an old man in the begining of book 16. He is in a land that seems farmiliar. He then finds a man named Eumaus tending his swine heard. Eumaus then takes him into his hut. In the hut Odysseus sees Telechamcus. They then spend awhile talking. Then Odyssues sees Athena and goes outside to greet her. She then talks to him about several things. Odyssues is unaware that a spell has been cast on him and he is in his true form.
After Odysseus returns to Eumaus and Telechamcus in his true form. Telechamcus runs to him and greets him in tears. Later Odysseus recounts his trip with the Phaeacians. While they are talking Tlechamcus tells Odysseus about the suitors. They then begin plotting on how to overthrow of the suitors. Odyssues comes up with a plan to launch a surprise attack from inside the Palace. The plan is that Odysseus will enter disguised as a beggar and Telechamus will hide in the palace’s armory where the suitors cannot see or reach them. Then the two of them will hold the arms of the suiters and slaughter them.
Later the suiters catch word of what Odysseus has been planning. The suiters then go outside to plan thier next move. After one of the suiters suggest to kill Telemachaus, but Amphinomus, one of the more thoughtful and behaved suitors tells the others to wait for a sign from the gods before doing anything they are not sure of. Durring all of this Odyssues has sent a messenger to tell Penelope that he is alive and how he is going to get rid of the suiter. Then the book ends with a cliff hanger.

Book Structure and Location The book uses a third person and first person veiw of the text as the person is reading the book. Homer almost uses literature that is like poetry to describecharacters in the book. Homer Uses similies and different names to describe the gods like athena.
Often when a person reads the book they get confused becauses Homer switches from place to place in different secenes almost like a movie. The book takes place in the hut of Eumaus in Ithaca. "Why did the sailors land him here in Ithaca" (340)This quote shows that the location of the small village is in the land of Ithca. "You rarely visit the farm an men theses days"(339) This suggest that the story also takes place at Eumaus's farm.
Pallas Athena Also called: Pallas , Roman counterpart: Minerva a virgin goddess of wisdom, practical skills, and prudent warfare. She was born, fully armed, from the head of Zeus. Daughter of Zeus, the Goddess Athena was not created by a woman. She leaped from the head of Zeus, already an adult and dressed with her full armor. Zeus chose Metis as his first wife. She was about to give birth to the Goddess Athena but Zeus tricked her so that Athena would go into his own body. In the most ancient account, the Iliad, Athena is the Goddess of ferocious and implacable fight, but, wherever she can be found, she only is a warrior to defend the State and the native land against the enemies coming from outside. She is the greates Goddess, she is the protecter of civilized life, activities, and agriculture. She also allowed men for the first time, to tame horses.She is the favorite daughter of Zeus. Athens is her city; the olive tree, is her tree; the owl, is her birth symbol. Even some of the richer girls would get a good education. Often the boys and girls were taught in different schools, like our modern day prep schools. The Greek children would learn tthree subjects from three different teachers. They would learn from grammatitists, who would teach reading, writting, and language. They would also have paidotribes. They coached: wrestling, booxing, and gymnastics. Last, they would have Kitharstes who taught Music.
At eightteen boys would have to undergo two years of military training. After that was finished they were offered to stay in the military or go home and recieve a higher education that would prepare them for public life. Some of the places used for higher education was the acadamy. The acadamy was a school for phylosophy founded by plato in 385B.C.. Aristotle also founded a similar acadamy called Lyceum were the education was much broader. These acadamies provide a model for todays modern day universities.
